Mount Pilchuck

GRANITE FALLS MOUNTAIN LOOP AREA

Miles: 5.5 roundtrip

Elevation: 2300 feet gained

This is an all around perfect hike to see all aspects of the mountains. It starts out as a gradual climb through the forest leads you to a view of Mount Rainier on a very awkward, rocky switchback. Eventually the trail is out in the open forest and still climbing with views of Three Fingers and White Horse Mountains. Passing some old ski lift pylons, the trail is wide open and the top is in view. In time the trail passes over a gap and climb the rest of the way to the lookout. There is a full circle view from the top, including the parking lot. All of the Cascades, Olympics, the San Juan Islands, Everett, and even the buildings of Seattle can be seen from the lookout. Inside the cabin is a photographical history of the mountain and much needed shade.

  • Get there: Take the Mountain Loop past Verlot and turn right onto the Pilchuck Road just after the blue bridge. The trailhead is about seven miles at the road's end and has toilets.
