Diablo Lake Trail

Diablo Lake Area

Miles: 7.5 miles roundtrip

Elevation: 1,400 feet gained

Entering the old growth forest right away, elevation is gained slowly until power lines cross the trail at about 1.5 miles in. There is a side trail here that takes you to an overlook back towards Diablo Dam.

As the trail continues, so do the views! Eventually on top of a gorge in the lake. The trail starts to lose elevation to another vista looking towards Ross Dam. This is an excellent place to eat lunch.

You soon reach switchbacks leading down to the Ross Dam suspension bridge. If you have another car waiting down there then continue on. If you do not, then this is a great turn-around spot to avoid extra climbing.

  • Get there: From I-5 take Highway 20 east past Marblemount and turn left onto Diablo Dam Road which is about 1.5 miles past the Gorge Lake Bridge. The road, marked for the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center, heads across the dam and after one mile ends at the trailhead.
